January Meeting Minutes

Treasurer’s Report: $94,643.29; grants $32,826.80 rest $61,816.49; hydro bill $283.66; gas bill $451.21; the Hixon Hall website hosting $196.00 annually; Orkin pests control $98.28 a month

- – Quotes for hall renovations. For now, we don’t have any grants for the hall’s ceiling renovation. The choice of the company is postponed.
- – Christmas Hampers updates: 39 hampers were prepared: 22 for seniors, 13 for families, and 4 others. Hixon Community Association donated turkeys and hams for $313.19
- – Playgroup is January 14th at 9:30 am
- – Christmas lights contest winners: Lisa Wellington, Shoppers, and Tammy Huidobro Winners received their prizes. Only a few people registered despite posters, Facebook posts, and ads in the Hixon Holler. For next year we need to plan sth to encourage people to participate. We cannot accept nominations because participants need to give consent to go onto their road or driveway to check eligibility to enter the draw. During the next Christmas Market, we should put a drop box where future contestants will put their register forms for The Christmas Lights Contest.
- – Organize supplies in the loft and backstage on January 21st, 9:30 am
- – 4H Club meetings in the Hall: no date yet. Rules: no animals in the hall and on the ground unless the insurance allows it. Art will check this with our insurer. 4H needs to clean the floors after the meeting and take out the garbage if needed. Judy will check with 4H if they have proper insurance and she will ask to share a copy with HCA.
- – Emergency information signage: Kim will prepare 2 signs: one for the exit door, and one next to the AED sign.
- – Park updates should be next month.
New Business
- – Hall Renting prices for 2025 we will look at them later. Emilia will update the Hixon Hall website to simplify the booking rules. We need to add a recommended minimum donation for the hall renting for Celebration of Life for Hixon for Hixon dwellers the member price is $300, non member is $400. Kristine will look at the paper rental form.
- – Fall Fair donations: Pat will send a list of places to choose for us to go and ask for donations
- – Fall Fair meeting: February 4th at 6:30 pm (planning the Fair events, prizes, etc)
- – 2025 Fraser Fort George Endowment Grant Program Kim will look at the grant criteria and she will participate in the workshops on January 17, 2025. Some ideas on what the grant could be spent on: speed board sign, food safety course, food service course, first aid course, concession stove service, ‘zamboni’ floor cleaning machine.
