November Meeting Minutes

End of October 2023 balance $89,852.63
$59,782.63 General account, $30,070.00 Grants. Pat will make a chart listing grants and how much money available per grant. (Soup group, Over the fence, Benches, Volunteer Terrace, Food Safe, Murals, First Aid, Weed Grant, Insurance rebate, Halloween / Enbridge, Food skills, Lakewood Welcome to Hixon signs, Yoga)

Old Business

  • Woodpecker Church Grant: Does not have to do with HCA. Hixon Fire Dept dealing with
  • Halloween: 55 kid pickup bags created filled with candy and other items. Money used
    from Enbridge grant $779.70 ( $697.39 remaining in grant) Mac & Cheese dinners handed out. Food purchased with soup group money $401.27. Donations collected: $751.00
  • Parent and Tots: Quesnel CDC, CONTACT Lorianne. A no charge preschool offering play toys and social interaction to parents & tots. Need 4-6 ppl to sign up. Group coordinators are infant development consultants. . Want to start Tuesdays in January. Need Facebook notice for people to register. HCA to provide a healthy snack.
    Motion to pursue Parent & Tot Program: Yes unanimous
    HCA added potential purchase of a playpen, high chairs to keep at Hall. Will revisit once program gets started. And assess if there is a need for infant equipment.
  • New Business
  • Hall Odor Removal: Kim. Company Uber Smart. Product: Chlorine Dioxide. Heavy gas needs circulation. Hall Fans and doors open would be sufficient. Smells like a swimming pool when done. Eliminates unwanted odors. No cost to HCA. Only effective on dry porous surfaces. Revisit once the roof is replaced.
  • Christmas hampers: 30 hampers to be created 2023. Lisa requested key access to accept donations Dec 1-17, build hampers Dec 18-22, deliver hampers Dec 23. Motion to donate space in Hixon hall & key access Dec 1-23 to christmas hamper committee: All in favor
  • Public announcement of election and members: Suggestion to announce new board members publicly . Results & minutes will be posted to Hixon website & new facebook page for HCA will be created by Kim Gibbs for HCA business to be posted.
  • Donation from Austin Payne: Contacting Austin to see if HCA can publicly use his name when announcing his $50 donation to the HCA to use towards unpaid members. Then a social media post will be created allowing community members to contact HCA requesting use of Austin’s donation for their membership.
  • Christine Marshall’s letter: Pat read email out loud at meeting. Points of the letter were addressed. Christina’s concerns were: Speeding thru community and needing better signage. A letter will be written to local MLAs requesting help to get lit signage to slow drivers down. Pat will begin a draft of the letter before forwarding on to appropriate recipients.
    Pal/Core course hoping this can be offered in the futur
    Campsites at Community Hall grounds, Can not charge for sites stops community access, not feasible.
    Livestock animals in community: Not HCA jurisdiction
    Pat will email Christina back.
  • Meat for Christmas hampers : Soup group would like to donate to Christmas hampers.
    Added Business:
    Hall water last week had a funky smell. Water is tested monthly and Motion to publicly announce water results if received. Rescinded If results are ever unsatisfactory Northern Health will contact HCA immediately.
    A public social media post should be published stating BC is in a level 5 drought and to be cautious about water consumption from the Hixon Hall.
